GOOD ADDRESSES in New York #13

My lovely sparkling unicorn (!),

It’s almost a tradition now, the beginning of the month means “Foodetcaetera’s food retrospective”. Pull out your address book and don’t miss anything. Nices places in New York to have diner, desserts or just a drink, follow me, c’est par ici:

The newbies:

During my first stay in New York in 2013, and since I had been reading so many great things everywhere about it, it tried Shake Schack. First deception (I told you about it here). I tried it again last month, to try the veggie burger (“shroom burger) and to see if only fools never change their mind. Second deception. The patty is a fried Portobello stuffed with cheese (which is basically my definition of heaven), but you only taste the frying and the cheese is kind of chewy. The bread is yellow (?) and the fries are still nicely cut but absolutely tasteless. Moreover, I had to stand in the queue to order it, and then to stand in the middle of the place to get my order (at least the place is really nice!) Conclusion: NO and definitely no. I can tell you 10 best places to have burgers within 3 miles and from my point of view, its success is more due to a trend!restaurant grande pomme voyage découvrir burger meilleurs

I finally tried Umami burger, after a friend of mine told me about their awesome truffles fries. Of course, I did not try the fries (!) but I tasted both the meaty and the veggie burger. The one with meat was delicious, but the veggie one was too dry (maybe it was the red beans patty, or the non-melting cheese, or the fact that the guacamole was almost absent, I don’t know!) I will go back, though, to try a vegetarian patty in a standard burger. (#painintheass #waitressnightmare)brookfield vegetarien nourriture repas americain

Dos Toros
is the exact copy of Chipotle… just not as good! Maybe it was the tomato rice, maybe it was completely psychological, but I was not thrilled!

♥ Four and Twenty blackbirds is a small place in Gowanus (Brooklyn) that bakes awesome pies and serves delicious mint tea. The place itself is nice, and even if the prices are crazy, it’s a nice address to try at least once! (And Gowanus is a nice neighborhood, still quite unknown so not too gentrified yet, with a lot of artists’ workshop. Love it!)patisserie usa pastry patissier

Spending the afternoon in Park Slope, hungry, we entered randomly in Mike Daddy’s pizza. The communication was quite difficult (as was the payment, since the guy was trying to read our card number upside down) but the slice was delicious, thin crust and awesome mozzarella. A little place to remember.park slope food restaurant fast food

Bars:

The Jadis is a nice wine bar in Bowery (between LES and Nolita). Deco’s nice, couches are comfy and I saw a large garden in the back. I will definitely go back when the nice days will be back as well. If they are coming back (Can you feel the fear of the NY winter in my soul?)

I won’t tell you more about Gradisca than: the plates are still huge, the food is still amazing, and the service is still really nice. Trust me, and try it!

And since we had a friend visiting from Switzerland, we went back to Bare Burger and it was as good as usual. I will advise you to avoid the one on 35th and 3rd Avenue, because the quality there tends to be bad. But except for this one, it’s still my favorite place for burgers!

One night, after a long day at work, I was craving for dumplings, with no intentions of getting dressed again, I literally chose the first opened Chinese restaurant on Seamless. It was China King, as luck would have it! Veggie dumplings were delicious, as were the spring rolls. It’s a keeper!

You saw it, November was good, but not phenomenal.

And I am working on a post with all my good (and bad) addresses. And by “working on”, I mean this has been on the top of my to do list for weeks and that instead of writing it, I am watching the second season of Gossip Girl while eating cranberries. Which I already watched. And which is by far not the best of the show. Sorry.

See you!
