Good addresses in New York #16
My little Ninja turtle,
Here is the one, the unique, the exceptional (wait… What ?) monthly food retrospective by Foodetcaetera. Every month, I put my head on the block for you, testing new places to help you find the best fit for your next night out in New York. You want to know where to stuff your face the right way in The City That Never Sleeps? Follow me, c’est par ici!
♥ This month, again, the universe waved at me (with its middle finger, I felt): “follow your guts you idiot and stop procrastinate!” Because, again, I fell in love with Veselka, a restaurant on my wish list since 2013. This Ukrainian place in the East Village is celebrating this year its 60th birthday and the food was awesome! The crazy pierogis lady I am could not be happier! Try it, it’s great!

Pepe Rosso To Go is a tiny tiny Italian place in the heart of SoHo. Don’t plan to eat there with your crew, they can fit 6 people tops, but it’s the perfect place for a takeout lunch. The pasta plates are huge, the Paninis delicious and the prices are actually quite good. Also, the owner is a real showman, you’ll have fun!

♥ In March, I took my taste buds for a little trip to Ethiopia at Injera. The food was delicious (even though it was really spicy) and the ambiance is great. Ethiopian food is served in a huge plate –an injera – with some kind of crepe covered with various garnish, with or without meat and everybody eats with their hands on the same plate. (Keep that in mind if the idea of eating from the same plate as everybody else is a no-go for you!) (Cash or AmEx only!)

♥ After a first nice experience in October, we went back to Spot Dessert Bar, in East Village. I can’t get enough of their yuzu ice cream!

Back to basics, the doughnuts from DD are a safe bet: not too big, not too expensive, perfectly fat and absolutely irresistible! All in!

I also tried the puff pastry choux filled with custard from Beard’s Papa, because they were supposed to be really good. Not a big fan! I rather eat Venerio’s éclairs!

I am a huge fan of Indian food and since we recently moved, we had to find a new favorite place for home delivery. And we did find Royal Munkey, kind of expensive but boy, it was so good!

Urbanspace Vanderbilt is a huge food court located in the heart of Midtown. The design of the place is great and the amount of vendors serving different kind of cuisine allows everybody to find something they’ll like! The only (really) bad thing about it is the price of everything we tried:
- The veggie burger from Bar Suzette, which was really good, with its mushroom covered in goat cheese. But the price was unbelievable: I paid $10 for the tiniest burger and… that’s it. Nothing came with that small thing! (By far the worst in terms of price.)
- The famous pizzas from Roberta’s. Good, good, good!
- ♥ The awesome doughnuts from Dough, the well-known New York institution! Best doughnuts I had so far!!

And… I am already done. Some good, some great, I hope you found something to suit you perfectly here! (And if not? Either you go in the archives and dig for something else, or come back next month for the next one. It’s up to you!)
See you’
