Good addresses in New York #9

Well, hello you! The 3rd episode of my food retrospective in New York is here. Don’t worry, I will also tell you about where to get drunk have drinks. You want to know where to eat in New York? Follow me, c’est par ici! (or here, as well)

The newbies:

Medi Wine bar, in Hell’s Kitchen, has a nice flowered terrace in the back. The menu was appealing but, unfortunately, it was not tasting so good and the Cher-et-Tendre and I had some issues digesting the meal. When you know my crappy stomach, it’s not a big surprise, but the Man could eat bricks so I am pretty sure something was wrong with the food! Conclusion: the place is nice, as well as the service but the food is bland, and quite suspicious. (Which is a pity because, as you can tell, the presentation was really nice!) Maybe just to have drinks?

♥ El Parador was a suggestion of Chris Martin, my neighbour (isn’t it awesome??) and it was a good one. The place is open since 1959, the decoration is beautiful and the authentic Mexican cuisine is delicious. They also have an entire vegetarian menu, but you’ll need to ask the waiter about it, since they are not going to bring it directly to you (!) Conclusion: Excellent food, great service and nice place. A huge YES.

Eons Greek is a (new) Greek restaurant/fast food, based on that build-your-own thing I like! Gyro, plate, you have a lot of possibilities and it’s delicious. You can build your vegetarian plate by combining rice with a few sorts of salads (lentils, beets, Greek, …) and some sauces. The tzatziki is terrific, as good as in Greece. Conclusion: Perfect for a lunch or a healthy dinner.

♥ Gradisca: Let’s talk seriously for 5 minutes: I found THE perfect place. This little gem is hidden in West Village, and it was pretty much the best meal I had in my whole life. Every little item we tasted was incredibly delicious, the Chef is really nice and the service was awesome. I will hopefully will be telling you more about it soon! I love the fact that the pastas are made by hand by “Mama”, who is coming a few times a year from Bologna, Italy, just for that! Conclusion: I fell madly in love with the food there. Try the tortellini, you won’t be disappointed!

Hill & Bay is a bar / restaurant on second avenue, with a perfect terrace to watch people passing by. Cocktails are nice (with a few virgin choices) but the food is just average and really expansive for what it is! I’ll check further next time I chose a restaurant because I love the logo (!) and the colourful cocktails! Conclusion: I think that the perfect service psychologically helped us to pay the bill, but I am pretty sure I will go back only for the happy hour!

Les take-out:

Fresco 57 : It’s fast, good and fresh food (which can be challenging in some places in the City.) A good place to go for a quick lunch in Hell’s Kitchen. Conclusion: Loved the sandwiches and the salads are huge. Not expensive.

Hale & Hearthy : You can have healthy and inexpensive food in this restaurant chain. I love their salads, build-your-own style and the lemon-chili dressing! It gets crowded for lunch, so be prepared to rush while ordering! Conclusion: Did I ever bother you tell you about my fascination for the “build-your-own”? Good food, healthy, inexpensive. Yes, yes, yes!

Ramen Takumi: One night, as I was craving for ramen (don’t ask!), that place helped me in no time. And when I say no time, I mean it: I waited something like 2.30 minutes between my order and the moment I went out with my bag of food. Crazy. Conclusion: It’s good, perfectly spicy, 2 minutes away from home, and you’ll be serve incredibly fast! And if you can’t eat on my couch, you can also sit at the restaurant!

Les “home delivery” :As you already know, I am terribly lazy and I love to eat. Let me introduce you Seamless, the best invention, ever. And if you want to try it without having an American credit card, you can also order on Grubhub!)

Six Happiness is our favourite delivering Chinese place. We order two appetizers and two entrees, and we have enough to eat for 2 meals! It’s cheap and delicious! Conclusion: Try it on Seamless, and tell me what you think!

The classics :

Bare Burger : I will not tell you again how much I love it, you can find it right here. But just so you know, I went there last week, and I miss it already! Conclusion: I’m in love, love, love!

Five Guys : (who just said “burgers, again”?) I already told you about that place here. It’s still excellent, the place is still ugly, the guy is still throwing the fries randomly in the bag, and it’s still my favourite “fast food style” burger. In addition, you can steal peanuts to feed the squirrels to wait until your food arrives. Conclusion: A must-to-do. Or to do again.IMG_20150613_201617Five Guys

Bars & Rooftops :

Sweet & Vicious : The backyard is nice, with its removable roof and the margaritas are supposed to be great! The place gets crowded really fast, though, and you can be disturbed by fumes. It’s also terribly noisy, which was the most disturbing thing in my opinion. Nice place for the ambiance, but forget about it if you plan to have a conversation!

Cinema  Restaurant & Bar:One of the best terrace for watching people in Midtown East. But the 34th Street get also crowded and the noise get annoying really fast. If you want some tranquillity, go somewhere else! However, the cocktails are delicious and I am still dreaming about the truffle sauce they served with the French fries!

I hope you had a good month of July. Don’t hesitate to give me your opinion about those places, or to suggest me other places to try! See you!
