My little sugar candy,
As you are reading these lines, I am toasting my fat on beach somewhere in Jamaica. Don’t hate me, I’ll probably come back super fat, since we booked an all inclusive hotel. Anyway.
NOT TRUE. I got lost somewhere between the amazing beaches of Jamaica and the translation of this article, meaning that I’ve been back for {too} long. However, I really wanted to share these pictures with you as well as thanking Justin from DC foodporn, who was a huge help in planning that amazing trip. Here we (finally) are, Washington DC in 4 days, follow me, c’est par ici.
The trip
Washington is 230 miles far from New York City, which means a good 5 hour on the road or 4 hours in a train. We chose to ride the bus, which was the cheapest option, and decided to go for Washington Deluxe. They had the best ratio price / customer reviews online and they even had electric outlets. 🙂 (= heaven for the geeks we are.) Also, it’s way cheaper than the train ($120 for the train ticket, $20 for the bus.)
The hotel
We stayed at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, which I think had a super location based on all the things we wanted to do and see. We did not pay for it, but I am pretty sure you can find cheaper options if you are on a budget. However, the bed was amazing (my #2 in order of importance after a good wifi connexion) and the rooms were big.
The City
Like the north part of New York City, the streets of Washington were built in a grid, which is helpful for people {who suck with orientation} like me. Also, a lot of the things to see are at walking distance* but you can always take the bus or the subway.
*walking distance’ meaning for somebody living in New York and walking 15 miles a day.
Things to see
The city is full of things to do and see, such as free museums and a lot of historic buildings. Unfortunately, we didn’t have the time to see everything but I guess we went through the most important stuff.
I didn’t like….
- the White House (which was way smaller than expected and not quite visible from the sidewalk)
- The zoo (probably cause we only saw ONE animal during our entire visit!)
- The
torturemassage we got at Revive Massage (which I’m still surprised we survived, as it was by far the WORST treatment ever! Not good, guys, not good.)
I loved :
- The Washington Monument
- The Capitole
- Georgetown…
- …and the more nature side of the neighborhood
- The monuments
- The architecture

The cleanliness in the subway (I mean, guys, you could almost eat on the floor!

The super nice people
- And last but not least….
The food
And as we are talking about it, let’s dig the topic a little bit more. As I said above, Justin is THE perfect foodie guide. Not only he is super nice, he also has the best taste in food. Zaytinia
I fell in love with this nice greek restaurant that serves mezze style dishes to share. It was delicious, not to pricey, the design of the place is amazing and the service was the best. The only bad thing I would day is about the noise: it gets super noisy but besides that, it was the best place!
Art and Soul
We had brunch there and oh boy, it was amazing! The place itself is also super nice with its little terrace. Yum!
Oyamel
Getting a table there was a nightmare, it took us 2 nights! The food was really good, but pricey although the service was soon bad (they brought all 5 dishes 10 minutes apart, so we just didn’t eat together…)
Pitango Gelato
Great dessert or nice snack, these were delicious.
Chaia
I fell deeply in love with their vegan tacos!! The place itself is super cute and near the little river so you can have a nice and quiet lunch there. Loved loved loved it!
DC Doughnuts
And what would be a week end without donuts? I mean, look at these crazy things!!
We ate well and visited nice things. DC, Ill definitely will be back.

Je garde un bon souvenir de Washington. On y est allé il y a + de 10 ans (waaahhh) à la fin du mois d’août, la ville était déserte. J’avais bien aimé cette ambiance particulière. Par contre, niveau resto c’était pas top, notamment un très mauvais resto asiatique, vu qu’il était blindé, on va dire qu’il était pas à mon goût….
Et sinon, je ne te hais point, je te déteste….. 🙂

Je suis allée à Washington deux fois: petite, puis lors de notre dernier échange de maison à New-York.
J’ai l’impression que cette ville est un peu oubliée des touristes français, et pourtant, son rythme de vie est très agréable et ses musées innombrables. Elle m’a parue idéale pour une séjour en famille et son métro est, ex-aequo avec celui de Hong-Kong, le plus agréable que j’ai pris.
J’espère que tu profites bien de ta position stratégique : hamac et mer vont si bien ensemble !
